I've been traveling for work what seems an eternity. Well I finally had a chance to work in the same town that I live in (woo-hoo). I ended up going through testing and interviews, and more testing and more interviews.
The most ironic part, none of the interviewers had a clue what my field of expertise intailed. All is fine and dandy, until the dreaded 'drug test''. No problem, never worried about any test before. I've been tested by this company many times before. This time it's a 'hair test'. I guess I have not been following up on drug testing procedures, since this was a complete surprise to me. Anyway, I ended up being a guinea pig for an assistant to learn the procedure. Still calm at this point. The assistant cuts the hair, puts it in the envelope, and attaches the safety seal - incorrectly. The assistant proceeds to rip off the seal, rotates it, and says it's 'stuck good enough'. Now I'm kind of nervous. Well, a week goes by and the company recinds the offer because of the drug test, not saying what portion I may have failed. (no history of prescribed/ or over the counter medicine was taken). Needless to say, I am shocked, but not surprised - given the poor handling of the specimen. My spouse is devasted. My take - there are other jobs, and other drug test.. I am going to find out
what failed on the test once the nurse returns from vacation to discuss it with me - even though the company has already rescinded the offer without my possible explanation. Ain't the world a wonderful place guilty until proven innocent - as usual.
Well when life gives you lemons, its time to make lemonade.
